Bringing in the fish and Birthday Celebrations (all in the same blog!)

January 25th

We were just walking down the beach one morning and what seemed like the whole community were hauling in a huge net! Ian thought he’d give them a hand and as there were already about 15 men around he joined in on the end of the line. As you can see from the pictures they got it in eventually, but the men were saying it wasn’t much of a catch this time although they seemed to catch quite a few starfish! Ian and I conducted rescue operation starfish and we went through the net and untangling as many as we could to get them back in the sea. Enjoy the pictures, it really is something else as they don’t use any machines and behead and gut the fish on the beach as you can see from the last picture!! Nice!

January 29th

Quarter of a century gone! Apart from my surfing injury that gave me a scarface for my birthday, I had a great time! We learnt to surf from the Mancunian Hannah, who gave us great tips on how to stay on the board and even how to get up onto it to ride the waves. Of course we managed that and standing up wasn’t the problem, staying up and the subsequent fall into the wave was. The board goes crazy and you have no idea where it is, mine just happened to kiss me on the nose! Ouch! Yes there was blood, but I think the rugby girl in me came out and I was still smiling! As it happened I wasn’t concussed and simply nursed my wounds with a cocktail or two and the fiesta weekend began! Dancing in the surf and party town of Montanita in my new dress with the entire Celta crowd was brilliant! But I am in a bit of a mourning stage at the moment, two tragedies happen in quick succession! Tragedy one, my trusty Mac laptop died, I realised it had got to the fine old age of 8 years and eventually it stopped charging, so I stayed with it until the last of the battery passed on to computer heaven. Tragedy two was that I realised I had up loaded all my birthday pictures and deleted them from the camera so boo hoo I don’t have any pictures from the party in Montanita!! Sorry guys, there is still little hope as I am stubbornly carrying the hard drive around Ecuador in hope that one day I will be able to really see what happened on the night of my 25th birthdayJ
